The depletion of the ozone layer is caused mainly by the increase in emissions of compounds like CFCs, halons, carbon tetrachloride, methyl chloroform and methyl bromide. Emissions of greenhouse gases can affect the depletion of the ozone layer through atmospheric interaction.
Moisture control is very important for the proper functioning of the building. This helps to protect occupants from adverse health effects. Moisture causes problems for building owners, maintenance personnel and occupants. It is mainly caused due to poor design, construction and maintenance. These issues can be rectified by the techniques that are based on understanding of how water behaves in buildings.
Huge amount of material goes into constructing a building. Some of these materials can last a long time, sometime even longer the life of the building itself. At the end of a building’s life these materials can be salvaged and reconfigured to be used elsewhere.
California Green Building Code, CALGreen – Daylight
Daylight is essential for proper mental and physical health. Studies have shown that it boosts productivity in a work environment. Bringing daylight into habitable spaces reduces the need of providing artificial lights.
CALGreen – Bicycle parking – In order the reduce the cars on road and need of parking spaces, code has enforced the requirement of installing bicycle stands.
CALGreen – Construction waste constitutes a large percentage of the total waste produced by the state. For this reason, California is enforcing diversion of construction waste from the landfill. This can be done either by recycling or reusing the building material elsewhere.
CALGreen Code Section 5.506.2: Carbon dioxide (CO2) monitoring.
Providing changing rooms for occupants or tenants of a building is an elective CALGreen measure. This is to encourage people to use bicycles more often
